Coming in to Everest Base Camp on April 18 makes for very somber memories of 2014.
On that day I was arriving into EBC and at least one serac in the western spur of Mount Everest failed causing an #avalanche that killed 16 people in the popcorn field of he icefall.
Life and death is a reality everywhere, but the annual reminder isn’t helpful to the soul.
I have some amazing pictures but am not in a position to share them. I’m only sharing ones that keep my bandwidth low.
Others are special ones only for the eyes of my wife and children.
This is an evening shot of the sunlight hitting the western spur of Everest and Nuptse. Reminding all those that looked up to remember the icefall is dangerous ख़तरा!
The sunlight is likely hitting Everest and Lhotse too, but we can’t see that from EBC.
I have easily heard over 1000 cracks and pops on the glacier ice we sleep on and that surround us at EBC. We have easily witnessed over 50 avalanches in the area too. That includes ones on Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbuche, Lhola, the Khumbu icefall, and on Nuptse.
Bonus, on this #earthday and until early June, I promise not to use running tap water and forced air heating or cooling and promise to use only #solar energy!
